About
I am a third-year Ph.D candidate at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in the Feminist Studies department, where I am part of the department's Genders and Sexualities track.
My research interests include LGBTQ studies, particularly politics and social movements, the history of same-sex desire and love in the United States, and transgender issues; popular and visual culture and new media; disability studies; fat studies; and feminist theory.
I have presented research at UCLA, the University of Michigan, the Social Science History Association, and the National Women's Studies Association. My article "What's Wrong With Be[com]ing Queer?: Biological Determinism as Discursive Queer Hegemony" is slated for publication in the June 2012 issue of Sexualities, and another piece on Lady Gaga will be forthcoming in an anthology about global LGBT media. I am also currently working on another project about protest in the wake of the passage of Proposition 8 in California.
My dissertation explores the function of two Massachusetts women's colleges as unique spaces that facilitate the exploration of sexual and gender identities. I am honored to be a recipient of the Bardwell Memorial Fellowship from the Alumnae Association of Mount Holyoke College, where I graduated as an alumna of the Critical Social Thought program, for the 2012-2013 school year.
