About
I am a PhD candidate in the English Department. I received my M.A. from University College Dublin in Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama in 2005. My dissertation, tentatively titled “Rooted Poetry, Cosmopolitan Poetics: Late Modernist Poets in a European Ireland,” focuses on Irish poets who are formally innovative and whose work challenges the dominance of the lyric as the only form of Irish poetry. This dissertation emphasizes the connection of the poets’ innovative treatment of the material form of poetry to their desire to reconstitute our engagement with our physical and cultural world. I consider contemporary Irish poetry in the political and economic contexts of the last several decades, focusing on the Republic's changing status in Europe and the world.
