Thesis Title: Effects of Chronic Nitrogen Additions on Carbon and Nitrogen Cycling in Two Tropical Forests. __________________ Dissertation Advisor: Dr. Whendee Silver

About

My research is in biogeochemistry, ecosystem science and tropical ecology, with an emphasis on global change. I focus on the effects of interacting global change factors (e.g., nitrogen deposition and fire) on soil carbon cycling and storage. In addition to altering plant productivity and carbon inputs to soils, global change can directly alter soil carbon storage via changes in microbial activity, decomposition, and soil chemical properties, all of which affect carbon losses from soils.

Other areas of interest include changes in above- and belowground carbon sequestration with reforestation, understory plant recruitment in tropical plantations, and biological nitrogen fixation in nitrogen-rich ecosystems.
